Awareness week (WDSD)

Celebrate World Down Syndrome Week with Us
14-21 March!

Get ready to celebrate difference, challenge stereotypes, and show the world what inclusion really means! World Down Syndrome Week is almost here, and we’d love you to join us in making it unforgettable.

What is World Down Syndrome Week?

Every year in March, communities around the globe come together to celebrate World Down Syndrome Week, building up to World Down Syndrome Day on March 21st. Why the 21st? It’s a perfect symbol – the third month (3) and the 21st day representing the triplication of chromosome 21 that causes Down syndrome.

This week is all about raising awareness, breaking down barriers, and promoting the rights and inclusion of people with Down syndrome. It’s a time to celebrate the incredible contributions people with Down syndrome make to our communities every single day.

Join the #LotsOfSocks Movement!

One of the most fun and visible ways to show your support is by wearing mismatched socks throughout the week! The #LotsOfSocks campaign celebrates individuality and those extra chromosomes that make people with Down syndrome unique.

Dig out your wildest, wackiest, most wonderfully odd socks and wear them with pride. Post your photos on social media using #LotsOfSocks and help spread awareness far and wide. It’s a simple gesture that starts important conversations.

How We’re Celebrating

Throughout the week, you’ll see communities hosting all sorts of brilliant events:

Every activity, big or small, helps create a world where people with Down syndrome are truly valued and included.

Why This Week Matters

World Down Syndrome Week isn’t just about one day of awareness – it’s about making lasting change. It’s about ensuring people with Down syndrome have access to quality healthcare, meaningful employment, and the chance to live full, independent lives.

It’s about challenging outdated stereotypes and showing the world that ability, not disability, is what counts.

Get Involved!

Whether you wear odd socks, share stories on social media, attend an event, or simply take time to learn more about Down syndrome, your support makes a real difference.

Together, we can build a world where everyone – regardless of how many chromosomes they have – feels welcomed, valued, and celebrated for exactly who they are.
