Each year Zurich Community Foundation ask charities like us to put forward challenges for them to complete that will help and support us. Earlier this year Zurich took on the challenge to provide an online cooking lesson for our members.
During half term eight of our members took part in the cook along. Darren Lee from Zurich led this challenge and decided that everyone was going to make a Victoria sponge cake and what a great choice that was! Darren was so patient and broke everything down into simple steps, so that everyone completed each step at the same time. There was a half hour break in between to let the cakes cool down before everyone iced their masterpieces.
We owe a massive thank you to Darren and we mustn’t forget his mum for a fantastic challenge. We also owe a huge thank you to Zurich for accepting this challenge and awarding our members with a £10 e-voucher to cover the cost of the ingredients. This was so much fun, all those that took part want to do this on a regular basis. If we have any cooks who would like to hold a cooking session with our young people, please get in touch and we will make the necessary arrangements.
When asked if they enjoyed the session one of our members said, “I had a brilliant time cooking with Darren and my friends it was fun. Darren was great. The feel was so friendly and welcoming.”
Kim West, Chair of the Swindon Down’s syndrome Group, organised the event for members and said, “thank you for a great morning, really well organised and Darren was great with our young people.”
