After team GB celebrates a summer of success at the Rio 2016 Olympics, we can also celebrate as Lane Stow racks up the medals to reach the Tennis Foundation National Tennis Tournament.
One of the players from our DSActive Tennis group, Lane Stow, recently travelled to Wrexham for the latest Tennis Foundation Regional Learning Disability tournament. This was one of five tournaments held during the year which culminate in the National Championships at the end of October.
On day one Lane, who is 17, played in Division 5 of the singles. This group had three other players, two of whom Lane had played in previous tournaments this year where he only managed a single victory in the four games. This time it was different. Lane won his first game 6-2 and never looked back, remaining undefeated with further 6-4 and 6-2 victories to top the division.
On day two, the doubles is played where players either have regular partners or are paired up by the organisers. Lane had a new partner from a lower division but they quickly organised themselves and started with a resounding 6-0 win against a usually solid regular pairing. The remaining game ended with a 6-3 win meaning Lane finished the weekend with two gold medals. Lane was extremely pleased with this outcome and is now preparing for the Nationals which will again be in Wrexham.
Well done Lane what a super achievement! We’ll all be cheering you on ready for the National Tournaments in October… Go Lane!
